Holiday for schools in Kottayam on Thursday, shops to remain closed

KOTTAYAM: District collector V Vigneshwari has announced a holiday for schools in Kottayam district on Thursday due to the mourning procession, public viewing and funeral of former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.

The holiday is due to traffic restrictions imposed by the police in connection with the ceremonies.

Shops will remain closed for the entire time in Kottayam town on Thursday as a tribute to former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, the Kerala Traders and Businessmen Coordination Committee said. At the same time, the Kerala State Traders and Entrepreneurs Committee has also decided to close all the business establishments in the district tomorrow from 1 pm to 5 pm as a mark of respect. All business establishments in Puthupally constituency will remain closed tomorrow.
