THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister MB Rajesh said that the law will be amended to make waste management efficient in the state. A draft of the amendment has been prepared to include strict measures against careless dumping of waste. He told the media that the bill will be introduced in the assembly session starting next month.
"The goal of a garbage-free new Kerala will be completed by March 30, 2024. Earlier it was decided to achieve the target on March 30, 2025. But due to the fire at the Brahmapuram waste plant and the subsequent problems, it was rescheduled a year earlier. After the Brahmapuram incident, Kochi has started to see a change. For the first time after many years, there was no waterlogging. The garbage problem has been temporarily solved and complete solution is underway. BPCL will set up a CNG plant at a cost of Rs 100 crore in Brahmapuram.", the minister said.
