KOCHI: Abdul Muttalib, an Assam native, was walking with a box in the night hours when Kunnathunad Excise Circle Inspector S Binu’s team conducted an ambush. In the subsequent search, the officials found heroin in the box, thus confirming the tip-off they received. According to initial reports, it is learned that Abdul’s illicit dealings are infamous in Aluva and Perumbavoor.

To avoid the eyes of the excise and police, the accused conducted transactions only at night very covertly. A total of 10 grams of heroin and Rs 5500 obtained from the sale of heroin were seized from the accused.

Possession of more than five grams of heroin is punishable by imprisonment for up to 10 years and a fine of up to one lakh rupees.

Assistant Excise Inspectors KT Saju, Salim Yusuf, Civil Excise Officers MR Rajesh, Arun Lal and AB Suresh were in the team.
