Kerala Solid Waste Management Project to be launched on Sunday

KOCHI: The Rs 2,400-crore Kerala Solid Waste Management Project will be launched today to recover land in 93 municipalities in Kerala by processing the accumulated waste. Minister MB Rajesh announced in a press conference that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the project at Grand Hyatt Hotel in Kochi at 10.30 am. The project is envisioned with state-of-the-art technology and world-class systems.

The project is funded by the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. The term is till 2027. 19 landfills will be decommissioned this financial year. A comprehensive solid waste management plan will be prepared for all 93 municipalities. A blueprint has been prepared for 31. An infrastructure development grant of Rs 1200 crore will be allotted to Municipal Corporations. CNG units, biogas plants and bioparks will also be set up. MCF for inorganic waste management will make RRFs attractive jobs. MB Rajesh also said that famous architect G. Shankar will design the green parks in these places.

Solid Waste Management Project Director Jafar Malik and Assistant Director UV Jose also attended the press conference.
