NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata party has appointed congress leader A. K. Antony’s son Anil Antony as the new national spokesperson of the party. It was BJP national president J P Nadda who gave final assent to Anil’s posting as the national spokesperson. The appointment comes with immediate effect.
With this appointment, the BJP has upped the game to lure in the Christian factions, mostly in Kerala. Anil will hereby have dual roles within the BJP as he is also the national secretary of the party. Anil, who was the former KPCC digital media convener and AICC social media coordinator in the Congress, made a volte-face and leaned closer to BJP before getting his membership in April.
The infamous BBC documentary putting the spotlight on Modi’s role in the 2002 Gujarat riots turned the mainspring for the former congressman to jump ship to BJP. Albeit being with Congress during that time, Anil raised concern about BBC intruding into India’s sovereignty by spreading surmises in the documentary and placing a wrong map of India sans Kashmir.
