Low pressure forming in Bay of Bengal: Heavy rain alert for these districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of heavy rain in isolated places in the state today. The cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal has intensified and turned into a low pressure.

At present, the low pressure is located over the West Bay of Bengal near south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coast. The Meteorological Center informs that moderate rainfall is likely to continue in Kerala for the next 5 days.

India Meteorological Department informs that there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places from September 5 to 8. An orange alert has been announced in Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts today. A yellow alert has also been declared in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts.

At the same time, a warning has been issued on the Kerala coast given the possibility of high waves. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has informed that there is a possibility of 1.8 to 2.1-meter high waves and storm surge along the Kerala coast till 11.30 tonight.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center said that there is a possibility of high waves of 1.7 to 2.0 meters along the South Tamil Nadu coast till 11.30 tonight. Fishermen and coastal residents are particularly advised to exercise caution in this situation.

As rough seas are likely to intensify, people should stay away from the dangerous areas as per the instructions of the authorities. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the risk of collision. The safety of fishing equipment should be ensured. Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea.
