Temperature to rise further, heat wave warning in four districts; moderate rain likely in 12 districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heat wave warning has been issued in more districts after summer gets severe again in the state. Apart from Palakkad and Thrissur, there is a possibility of heat wave in Alappuzha and Kozhikode as well. Due to high temperature and humid air, hot and humid weather is likely till May 4 in these districts, except in the hilly areas. Meantime, the Meteorological Centre also informed that moderate to light rain is also possible in districts except Kasaragod and Kannur.


Till May 4th, Palakkad will record high temperature of 41 degrees Celsius, Thrissur of 40 degrees Celsius, Kollam and Kozhikode of 39 degrees Celsius, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Kannur of 38 degrees Celsius, Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, Kasaragod and Malappuram, the central meteorological department has issued a warning that the maximum temperature may rise up to 37 degrees in the districts.


The Central Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert as the temperature in some areas of Palakkad is likely to increase by three to five degrees Celsius above normal. All educational institutions in Palakkad have been closed earlier. The order was issued by the collector as per the demand of the State Disaster Management Authority. All educational institutions, including professional colleges, have been proposed to remain closed till May 2. It has been suggested that there should be no additional classes and no classes should be held in colleges.


Meantime, the Palakkad District Labor Officer informed that the restructuring of working hours will continue till May 15 in view of the current situation. There will be a break from 12 noon to 3 pm. For those working in the sun, it is suggested that the morning shift ends at 12 noon and the afternoon shift starts at 3 pm.
