NEW DELHI: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty, who is in New Delhi to attend the G20 Summit, visited the Akshardham temple today. He had expressed his desire to visit the temples in India. This is Rishi Sunak's first official visit to India since becoming Britain Prime Minister.
Security was beefed up in and around the temple during their visiting time. After the temple visit, Rishi Sunak along with other delegates went to Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi. He had yesterday informed that he will find time to visit the temple.
Sunak had previously stated that he was a proud Hindu and grew up as such. He said that he could not celebrate Janmashtami due to lack of time. His decision was to overcome that problem by visiting the temple.
Rishi Sunak had earlier participated in the Ramayana recital function organized at Cambridge University. Rishi Sunak had spent time with the staff and Indian students at the Delhi British Council on Friday.
