NEW YORK: Novak Djokovic won the fourth US Open, setting a new record for Grand Slam singles titles. The brilliant victory of the Serbian player was against third seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia in straight sets with the scores of 6-3, 7-6(7/5), 6-3.
Djokovic, who reached the finals of the US Open two years ago, had lost to Medvedev. Today's win is a sweet revenge for that defeat. With this, Djokovic equalled Australian legend Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam wins. With this, the 36-year-old Djokovic also holds the rare record of becoming the first player to win three Grand Slam titles four times. Djokovic regained the status of world number one with this victory at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
