THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The weather department has forecast heavy rain in the state from today. The Meteorological Department has predicted widespread rain for the next four days. Low pressure is likely again in the Bay of Bengal. A rain warning has been issued in this situation. In the wake of heavy rains, yellow alert has been sounded in four districts.
Although a yellow alert has been announced, special caution has been directed in hilly areas where there is a possibility of heavy rainfall. Yellow alert has been sounded in Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod today.
Meantime, the Central Meteorological Department has informed that in the next three hours, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Kasaragod and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph.
The National Center for Oceanography and Research has informed that there is a possibility of 0.9 to 1.5 meter high waves and storm surge along the Kerala coast from 05.30 pm on 27-09-2023 to 11.30 pm on 28-09-2023.
As rough seas are likely to intensify, people should stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities.
Keep fishing vessels (boats, canoes, etc.) safely moored in the harbor. Keeping a safe distance between boats can avoid the risk of collision. Safety of fishing equipment should be ensured.
Avoid trips to the beach and activities at sea completely.
