Fake notes on rise, police register cases on RBI's complaint

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The number of fake notes received in banks is on the rise. Banks under the Reserve Bank of India's Thiruvananthapuram Division receive counterfeit notes the most. Among this, fake 500 rupee notes are mostly found.

Police have registered 14 cases this year on the complaint of RBI claims manager. Among the cases in Museum Station, 3 cases in Alappuzha, 4 in Ernakulam and 2 in Kozhikode have been handed over for further investigation. Museum police are also investigating 5 cases. On January 13, five fake notes of Rs 500 were found in the money sent from the bank's Kasaragod branch to the Reserve Bank's Thiruvananthapuram division and the police have registered a case.
