POTHENCODE: The construction of Kazhakuttam-Kadampattukonam National Highway 66 is progressing at a fast pace. This project upon completion will ease up travelling for city residents and will be a yardstick of development in the state capital. The construction involves a six-lane road that covers a distance of 29.83 km.
Attingal bypass will be constructed on an 11.150 km road from Navaikulam to Mamam in the same project. The cost of the project is Rs 795 crore. RDS Project Limited, which built the Kazhakootam Elevated Highway, is in charge of the construction. The contract calls for completion in 2025.
There is a peculiarity within the project. When it reaches completion, there will be no more traffic signals in between roads connecting Edappally and Kazhakuttam. After Edappally, the next signal will be at Mukkolakkal Junction on Akkulam Bypass Road.
The average speed on this road is 80 to 120 kmph. On both sides, 7.5 m width service roads will function. The service roads are constructed in such a way that two vehicles will have enough space to pass through them at the same time.
The main road is being constructed in three lanes with a width of 11.5 meters on each side. Four semi-utility underpasses, six light vehicle underpasses, five vehicle underpasses, four flyovers, and three vehicle overpasses will be constructed on the proposed Kazhakuttam-Kadampattukonam National Highway.
