Cricket returns to Olympics after 128 years; IOC approves cricket, four more sports at 2028 Olympics

MUMBAI: The International Olympic Committee has included cricket in the 2028 Olympics to be held in Los Angeles, America. This historic decision was taken at the IOC session in Mumbai today. T20 cricket will be included in the Olympics. Apart from cricket,baseball-softball, flag football, lacrosse and squash are the other sports set to be included in the 2028 Olympics.

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach had earlier hinted at the possibility of including these games in the Olympics, and IOC member and Reliance Foundation Chairperson Nita Ambani said she was delighted to see cricket included in the 141st IOC Olympic Session.

Baseball, cricket and lacrosse return to the Olympics, while squash and flag football are set to feature in the Olympics for the first time. Notably, cricket is making a comeback at the Olympics after 128 years. Cricket was last played at the Olympics in the year 1900. Lacrosse was included in the 1904 St. Louis Olympics and the 1908 London Olympics. With the inclusion of these events, the total number of events in the Olympics has increased to 33.

The IOC session was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister said that India is eagerly waiting to welcome the 2036 Olympics and that it is the dream of 140 crore Indians.
