Truth won in Kargil; Pakistan hasn't learnt from history, says PM Modi

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that India's victory in the Kargil war was a victory of truth and strength against the terrorism of Pakistan which infiltrated the border through deceit. Speaking during Kargil Vijay Diwas Shradhanjali Samaroh in Drass, the Prime Minister said that although terrorism failed in various places, including Kargil, Pakistan has not learnt anything from history.

He also launched the construction of the 4.1 km Shinkun La tunnel in Ladakh at an altitude of 15,800 feet.

"I bow down with respect to all the brave warriors who brought victory to the country. I pay homage to the soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in Kargil to protect the motherland. In Kargil, we not only won the war, we also gave a wonderful example of 'truth, restraint and strength'. You know, India was trying for peace at that time, and in return, Pakistan once again showed its untrustworthy face. But falsehood and terror were defeated in the face of truth," said PM Modi.

"Pakistan, which supported terrorism, was defeated in Kargil. Yet, it has not learnt anything from its past and has continued to wage war in the garb of terrorism and proxy wars to stay relevant. However, the nefarious intentions of terrorists will never be fulfilled. Our brave hearts will crush all terror attempts," the PM said.

Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr.) BD Sharma, Minister of State for Defense Sanjay Seth, Joint Chiefs of Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chiefs and others were present.
