KANNUR: Maoists open fire on Forest Department watchers. The incident happened in Ramachi, Kelakam, Kannur. The Maoists fired in the air on seeing the watchers. The forest watchers ran away immediately from the spot. There were five Maoists in the group. The three forest watchers who survived said that the group fired six rounds. It is concluded that this is the same group that opened fire in Wayanad Kambamala.

Maoists had visited Shantigiri Ramachi a few days ago. Five Maoists arrived at Kanakkumcheri Sunny's house in Ramachi. The group consisted of armed men. The family members said that the group reached around 7 pm on Sunday, charged their mobile phone, laptop etc. and returned after having food around 10:45 p.m.

After the attack in Thalapuzha Kambamala, Wayanad, Police had intensified surveillance using helicopters in Aralam and Kottiur forest areas, places where Maoists are present apart from Wayanad. The aim of the police was to understand in advance the places and routes of easy access in case of a Maoist attack. Maoists reaching again in Ramachi, a hilly area, is causing headaches for the police. Police have identified that the group led by Maoist leader CP Moideen is the one that reached Sunny's house.
