Setback for BJP in Telangana; Actress and former MP Vijayashanti leaves party and returns to congress

HYDERABAD: Actress and former MP Vijayashanti has resigned from the BJP. She handed over her resignation to BJP state chief G Kishen Reddy last evening. Her decision was when there are only two weeks left for Telangana assembly polls.

Party sources said that she is likely to join the congress party in the presence of Congress leaders Mallikarjuna Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. Senior leaders of Telangana PCC will visit her and formally extend an invitation to join the party.

Vijayashanti was MP from TRS’ Medak in 2009. However, she returned to congress in 2014 due to differences of opinion with TRS leadership. She joined the BJP following the defeat of congress in 2018 and 2019. She was the star campaigner of the Congress in the Lok Sabha polls held in 2019. She was also the chief of Telangana Congress Pracharana Samithi. She joined the BJP in 2020 following her dissatisfaction with the state Congress leadership for ignoring her.
