KANNUR: A 71-year-old farmer ended his life in Ayyankunnu. He has been identified as Subramanyan of Palathinkadavu Mudikkayam in Ayyankunnu panchayat. He could not cultivate in his two acres of land due to the disturbance of wild animals.

His daughter said that he took the drastic step as he was depressed for not being able to cultivate in his land. He was staying in a rented house for the past two and a half years.

He had to leave the house that he had been staying for 30 years due to the disturbance of wild elephants. He then shifted to a rented house. Since he owned land, he was not entitled to get a house under the LIFE scheme. Subramanian committed suicide in a tree near the rented house. He was suffering from cancer.
