KUMALI: A native of Kumali died after his car caught fire in Spring Valley near Kumali. Cardamom farmer Roy Sebastian (64) died. The accident took place at 8:30 pm on Monday on the Kottarakkara-Dindigul highway near Kumali on the 66th Mile Road. The car in which Roy was traveling met with an accident while he was driving his car from the cardamom plantation at Chenkara near Vandiperiyar to his house at Kumali.

The accident happened only a meter and a half away from the house. Navaraj, a resident of Vandiperiyar, who was following the car after seeing the car on fire, quickly overtook the car, stopped the bike and approached the car and tried to rescue Roy. On the way down, the windows of the car parked in the middle of the road were raised. Roy, who was driving the car, was also wearing a seat belt. Navaraj said that one of the passengers of the KSRTC bus who had stopped after seeing the incident broke the window of the car and opened the door but the fire broke out and pushed him away.

The burnt car rolled down the hill and hit Navaraj's bike. The bike was also burnt. KSRTC bus was not hit by the car as it hit the bike. Roy used to cultivate cardamom on leased land in Chengara. It is also said that Roy had financial obligations. It is suggested that there was a fuel like petrol inside the car which caught fire easily. Funeral tomorrow at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Ferona Church, Kumali. Wife: Dolly, children: Bull bull, Ebel.
