THRISSUR: Notorious gang leader Ambayathode Ashraf Hussain who has now spent over 25 years in jail is reportedly suffering from a serious disease. Ashraf suffers from Hepatitis C which is transmitted through blood. Jail authorities fear the disease getting transmitted among fellow inmates and have now prepared a report. Viyyur Central Jail authorities and District Jail authorities have written to the Home Department requesting that Ashraf be transferred to the maximum security jail as soon as possible.
According to the report, Ashraf often self-inflicts injuries and attacks other inmates in order to transmit the disease. It was part of this plan that Ashraf recently mauled gangster Maradu Aneesh with a blade all over his body in the Central Jail. After this incident, Ashraf was shifted from the Central Jail and kept in a solitary cell in the District Jail.
The report mentions Ashraf’s high addiction to deadly drugs and his devil-like mentality to bruise his body with piercing objects. All jail authorities across the state have opposed receiving Ashraf for fear of his disease getting spread. Ashraf harbours feelings for none and often attacks police wardens and doctors who come to meet him.
According to some police officials, it is all a game plan of Ashraf to make the officials move him to Kannur Jail which has a more conducive environment that supports his misdemeanor. Recently Kodi Suni, another criminal who staged a ruckus in Thrissur jail was moved to Kannur, which Ashraf is now trying to emulate.
