PALAKKAD: A CPM leader was arrested for a POCSO case in Palakkad’s Cherpulassery on Monday. CPM leader and DYFI Cherpulassery former block committee member K Ahmed Kabir was arrested by the police in the case of molesting a 16-year-old girl.

The victim and her family had complained to the police about the incident and Ahmed was taken into custody on Sunday evening. After detailed interrogation, the arrest was confirmed at 11 am on Monday morning. According to the complaint, the minor girl was taken to different places and molested. After the news of the arrest, CPM expelled Ahmed from the party.

It was just recently that a CPM member tried to sexually harass a minor boy in Malappuram’s Parappanangadi. The police later booked Velayudhan Vallikkunnu who was in charge of the Malappuram district committee. Velayudhan misbehaved with the boy during the bus journey to Kozhikode Nallalam. A case was registered based on the statement of the victim who hailed from Vallikkunnu.

Velayudhan was suspended by the party after the incident. Despite the police registering a case, there was widespread criticism that the party did not take timely action against him.
