Woman gets 40-year rigorous imprisonment in POCSO case for letting lover rape daughter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A woman was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for not protecting her minor daughter of seven years from being sexually abused by her lover. The Thiruvananthapuram POCSO court sentenced the second accused, her mother to 40 years imprisonment and imposed a fine also. Her lover raped her daughter with the knowledge of her.

Despite knowing the incident, she let him rape her daughter. Police also arrested Sishupalan, the first accused in the case, but he later committed suicide. The girl's sister informed the police about the incident.

The harassment took place from March 2018 to September 2019. The woman's husband was suffering from mental illness and following this, she started living with Sishupalan. She had taken her seven-year-old daughter along with her. He then constantly abused the girl. After abusing her brutally, he used to injure her private parts.

Although she told the mother about his abuse, she advised her not to take it seriously and not to tell anyone outside. After this, the child was abused even in the presence of her mother. Meanwhile, the girl’s 11-year-old sister came to stay with her mother. The victim is the accused's daughter from another marriage.

Sishupalan had threatened the children not to divulge the incident to anyone. The 11-year-old girl took her sister to their grandmother and informed her everything. The woman’s mother asked her daughter to end her relationship with Sishupalan but she refused to do so.

She later left Sishupalan and went with another person. He also abused the children with the help of her. The grandmother and the elder child informed the police about the incidents and soon the children were shifted to a children's home.

Sishupalan committed suicide after the trial of the case began. With this, only the children's mother faced trial. If the fine is not paid in the case, she will have to serve six months more in addition to the 40 years.
