KANNUR: A leopard that got trapped inside a well in Peringathur was brought out safely after some arduous work on Wednesday. After making the leopard enter into the net, the locals raised the wild beast halfway for the forest officials to dart it with tranquillizers. The leopard was dazed and fell into a slumber just moments after the tranquillizer shot. This helped the locals and forest officials to raise the beast and move it to a cage.

On Wednesday, the leopard accidentally slipped into the well of a house that was under construction. The land was owned by Sudhi, an Aniyaram native. The incident happened at 10 am on Wednesday.

It is reported that the leopard will be soon transported to Wayanad, to be released in the lush jungles. To save the leopard from drowning, two and a half gallons of water was drained out from the well before the DFO ordered a tranquillizer dart to be shot. The tranquillizer dart was placed under the leadership of veterinary surgeon Ajesh Mohandas from Wayanad.

According to forest officials, the leopard may have crossed the river nearby to enter into the human habitat.
