Duped crores with fake promise of Kerala university jobs; Nanthancode native to be arrested soon

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A fraudster who extorted Rs 1 crore from five people giving fake promises of jobs at Kerala University and Kasaragod Central University will soon be arrested by Museum police after reaching Manjeri Jail where the accused is placed. Nanthancode native Sunil is the accused.

Sunil is on remand in Manjeri for a similar fraud case. The museum police filed an application in the Manjeri court to record the arrest and proceed with interrogation. The woman who lived with Sunil is also accused of the fraud. More detail about the lady will emerge if Sunil is thoroughly questioned, says the police report.

There are three cases against Sunil in the capital city. The case in the museum section is for extorting Rs 13 lakh from a native of Plamootukada for an attendant job in Central University. Two women working on contract in the Karyavattom campus were duped of Rs 10 lakhs each by Sunil.

The complaints were registered in Medical College and Sreekaryam police stations. The scientist of the central institution at Akkulam is a co-accused in this case. He was the one who introduced Sunil to the two women. The scientist's wife works with them on the Karyavattom campus which made the connection easy.

Sunil is now lodged in Manjeri jail for extorting Rs 70 lakh from a Karuvarakundu native promising to make him an assistant professor at Central University. The complaint also mentions that Sunil duped them by arriving in a car that had a state government board.

The police said that he had also extorted money from people working in the secretariat. In several crimes committed over the years, Sunil has amassed Rs 2 crores illegally.
