THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Telangana recorded poor polling numbers compared to the last time elections happened in the state. According to the latest report, 64.54 per cent of people have registered their consent. Polling started at 7 am and ended at 5 pm on Thursday. In the 2018 elections, the polling was 79.17 per cent. Despite the high-charged campaigning, the fall in voting numbers is a worrying sign for top contenders.
BRS should be worried most among all of the parties since low voter turnout happened in their bastions. BRS, Congress and BJP are in a fight to wrest power while exit polls pointed Congress to come back to power in the state. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao and his wife Shobha voted at Chintamadaka polling station in Medak district. BRS leaders K. Kavita, K.T. Rama Rao, Congress State President Revanth Reddy, BJP State President G. Kishan Reddy, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi, Sena leader Pawan Kalyan and others also cast their votes.
Actors like Chiranjeevi, Allu Arjun, Junior NTR and others also casted their votes. BRS-Congress workers clashed at various places while polling was going on. BRS workers prevented Revanth Reddy's brother Kondal Reddy from entering the polling booth, leading to a clash. Clashes broke out in Rangareddy and Jangaon.
There were 2,290 candidates in 119 constituencies. 35,655 polling stations were set up. 2.5 lakh employees were appointed for the duties. After the model code of conduct came into force, investigating agencies seized assets worth around Rs 737 crore, including cash, gold, liquor and freebies. Votes will be counted on December 3rd.
