Man, accused of robbing gold from elderly woman on pretext of performing pooja, arrested by police

PUTHANCHIRA: A man, accused of robbing gold ornaments from an elderly woman living alone here Mankidi after making her believe that a pooja needs to be done to remove evil, was arrested.

The arrested has been identified as Unni (57), of Kakkatil House in Kodakara's Marathampallipadam, was arrested by Iringalakuda DySP TK Shaiju and Inspector Sajin Shashi on the instructions of Thrissur Rural SP Navaneet Sharma. The incident related to the case happened last Friday.

The accused, who said that there were some problems with the elderly woman's horoscope, later stretegically asked about her problems. After telling that there are issues in the residence of the said woman, Omana, he asked her to take off her gold necklaces, bangles and rings, as the pooja should be performed with no ornaments on the body. The fortune teller who took the jewellery by saying that the ornaments should be blessed at Chottanikara, left and never returned.

The police team came to know about the incident and conducted a detailed inspection of the place. It was found that the person reached the road through the nearby field and hopped on a scooter that came through it. Then the thief was caught in the investigation by collecting pictures suspected to belong to the accused. The hints given by the police officers who had seen him made things easier.
