THRISSUR: Anitha, a retired revenue inspector with 20 years of dedicated service, has embarked on a new educational journey at Thalakkottukara Vidya Engineering College. Accompanied by her family, including her children, daughter-in-law and grandchildren Anitha expressed her intent to pursue a civil engineering degree when questioned by the college principal about admission citing her passion for serving the community.
In response to the principal's astonishment regarding her decision to study at her age, Anitha explained, "I have witnessed the struggles faced by ordinary people in acquiring government-sanctioned house plans and estimates. I believe these essential services should be freely accessible to everyone. Hence, I aim to obtain a degree in civil engineering to provide assistance without cost."
Despite being surrounded by classmates significantly younger than her, Anitha considers them akin to children and views their collaboration, alongside her own family's support, as an aid in her educational journey. Her prior academic background in B.Sc Mathematics and B.Ed and her teaching experience of five years in an aided UP school have bolstered her confidence in comprehending the civil engineering syllabus.
Residing near Mulangunanthukkavu at 'Anugraha', Anitha, widowed after her husband Late Ramachandran's passing has always harbored a passion for learning. Her decision to return to academia after retirement stems from her enduring love for education and the unwavering encouragement of her family.
Dr CB Saji, the college principal lauded Anitha's endeavor as a testament to the boundless possibilities that arise from embracing new opportunities.
