BENGALURU: Just days after being included in the Indian squad team that is about to tour South Africa, Kerala cricketer Sanju Samson found form with a brilliant century on Tuesday. The player celebrated his recall to the national team by hitting a century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Against Railways, Sanju scored 128 runs from 139 balls including eight fours and six sixes. Albeit Sanju’s heroics, Kerala lost the match by 18 runs. Batting first, Railways scored 255 runs for the loss of five wickets in 50 overs, while Kerala's reply was limited to 237-8 in the allotted overs.
Despite the loss, Kerala qualified for the quarter-finals with five wins from seven games. In the match to be held in Rajkot on the 9th of this month, Kerala's opponents are the powerful Maharashtra.
In Tuesday's match, Sahab Yuvraj Singh had earlier scored a century for Railways. After being denied a spot in the Indian team to face Australia in the recently concluded series, experts commented on Sanju’s dismal form in domestic cricket and his inability to keep consistency. Minding this, Tuesday’s century from the Rajasthan Royals captain is also a sweet response to the selectors. This has also upped the hopes of many cricket aficionados back in Kerala about the local boy performing well in South Africa.
