SI suspended for taking bribe from relative of accused

IDUKKI: A sub inspector has been suspended for taking Rs 10,000 bribe from the relatives of an accused in attempted murder case. The disciplinary action against Upputhara SI KI Naseer was taken by Ernakulam Range DIG Putta Vimaladitya. Kattapana SI K Naseer was given the temporary charge of station house officer in the vacancy of CI of Upputhara station.

On the evening of November 13, near Marykulam town, a clash broke out and two people were injured after some questioning drinking in a vehicle. In the incident, the police registered a case against man, who is a nearby resident, adding charges including attempt to murder. Relatives of the accused reached the station on November 16 and approached the SI with the demand to give a favourable report in the investigation. They were allegedly asked to reach the SI's residence with a bribe of Rs 10,000. The next day, the accused surrendered and was remanded. Later, the information about the bribe was leaked from the accused's relatives.

With this, the intelligence department gave a report to the higher officials. Then District Police Chief in Kattappana sought a report from DySP. In the investigation, it was found that he had accepted the bribe and was suspended on the basis of the subsequent report.
