PESHAWAR: A recent report claimed that 23 persons were killed in a suicide attack that took place at a military base in Pakistan. The suicide attack took place at the military base in Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday morning.
International media reported that Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (Pakistani Taliban) has claimed responsibility for the attack. The attack took place near the Afghanistan border.

The blast happened when everyone was sleeping at the military base. Most of those killed were dressed in civilian clothes.
Therefore, it is not clear whether those killed in the blast were military personnel or not, the officials said. 27 people were injured in the blast. According to reports, a vehicle loaded with explosives rammed into the temporary military base operating in the school building.

Three rooms in the building were completely destroyed. The dead bodies are currently being shifted to the nearby hospital. The death toll is likely to increase, the officials said. Pakistan's army has not yet commented on the incident. Pakistan has witnessed a dramatic spike in militant attacks, mainly in its border regions with Afghanistan, since the Taliban returned to power there in 2021.
