NEW DELHI: Congress announced 'Donate for Desh', an online crowdfunding campaign for Lok Sabha election expenditures. KC Venugopal, general secretary of the organization said that the inspiration for this is the historic 'Tilak Swaraj Fund' implemented by Mahatma Gandhi in 1920-21.
Taking into account the 138 year history of Congress, donations are accepted in multiples of Rs 138 (eg Rs 138, Rs 1380, Rs 13,800 or more) through the donateinc.in portal or www.inc.in website. The links will be operational when Congress president Mallikarjuna Kharge inaugurates them in New Delhi on Monday.
Online donations will be accepted till December 28, the Congress Foundation Day. Following this, the party workers visit houses to collect donations. It has been decided to accept donations from at least ten households in each booth.
All PCC Chairpersons have been directed to create awareness through press conferences and social media about the crowdfunding. State office bearers, elected representatives, DCC presidents, PCC presidents and AICC office bearers should contribute a minimum of Rs 1,380.
"Those who looted the country for 60 years are now seeking donations from the same country. This is to hide the shame of confiscating 400 crores from Rajya Sabha MP Dhiraj Sahu'
