Karnataka Health Minister urges senior citizens to wear masks, advocates caution in Kerala border areas

BENGALURU: Karnataka's Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has advised senior citizens and those with health conditions to wear masks amid a rise in COVID cases in Kerala and neighbouring states. Stressing on precautions, Rao highlighted, "People over 60 years old and people with heart issues or other medical ailments should wear masks."

Emphasizing government initiatives, Rao stated, "Hospitals are being set up especially in border areas adjoining Kerala. Vigilance has been heightened and respiratory patients are urged to undergo testing."

In a concerning trend, the country is witnessing a resurgence in COVID cases with 1828 new infections reported recently. Tragically, a death was recorded in Kerala. According to Union Ministry of Health data approximately 4.46 crore people have recovered from the virus signifying a recovery rate of 98.81 percent. The toll stands at 5.3 lakh lives lost due to the virus.
