LONDON: Arsenal returned to the top of the English Premier League table after a dominating performance against Brighton in London on Sunday. Arsenal’s return back to the summit was partly due to the help given by Manchester United who held Liverpool to a goalless draw in the Merseyside’s Anfield stadium.
The in-form Liverpool squad failed to convert the umpteen chances they received in front of the goal while United held back against their rivals with occasional attacks. Liverpool had a total of 34 shots on goal in this match but all the attempts were clumsy enough for United goalkeeper Onana to make some comfortable saves. Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz scored second-half goals as Arsenal beat Brighton at home. Gabriel scored in the 53rd minute. Havertz's goal was in the 87th minute. Arsenal won their 12th win of the season and now have 39 points.
Meanwhile, in yet another shocker, Title favourites, Manchester City were held for a draw by Crystal Palace at Etihad. Crystal Palace scored their final goal in arguably the last kick of the game from a penalty, dashing City's hopes.
