Elephant, baby fall into well; Forest department employee injured during rescue operations

KOCHI: An elephant and its baby that fell into a well at Mamalakandam in Ernakulam have been rescued. The elephant and its baby fell into the well in a residential area. A local resident and a forest department employee were injured during the rescue operation.


The two fell into a deep well. A JCB was brought and after removing the soil, the two were rescued. The locals came to know about the incident only early morning. They then informed the forest department. The elephant and the cub later returned to the forest.


A leopard had fallen into a well in Kannur a few weeks ago. It fell into the well of Suneesh's house at Peringathur in Kannur. The forest officials saved the life of the leopard after placing a log in the well to prevent it from drowning. After several hours of effort, the forest department officials took the tiger out of the well after sedating it.
