KANNUR: Kallyassery MLA M Vijin engaged in a heated exchange with a police SI in front of protesting nurses on Thursday. The incident brewed up after the town SI reached the protest venue and warned the nurses about registering cases against them if continued with the protest. The government nurses association were protesting in civil station premises citing several reasons. M Vijin MLA was invited to inaugurate the protest. In normal circumstances, the protest would end near the collectorate, but on Thursday, things went awry as protesters stormed inside, as no police officers showed up on time to block their passage.

M Vijin MLA, who knew the procedures asked the nurses to return outside from the civil station area. The nurses said they were unaware of the procedures as there were no police officials to stop them. It was at this point that the police reached the spot and warned all nurses about registering cases for protesting in front of the civil station area.

Amidst this a woman constable, as a part of taking names of protesters, went to Vijin, totally unaware of his MLA status and asked for his name. This irked the MLA which soon morphed into a heated exchange.

“ People like you are bringing shame to Pinarayi Police, and don’t try to show off Suresh Gopi style policing.” MLA was heard saying amidst the tussle.
