THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CBI says that there is no love jihad or religious extremism links behind the disappearance of Jesna Maria James, a second year B.Com student of Kanjirapally SD College. This information is contained in the 52-page final report submitted by the investigation team to Thiruvananthapuram Chief Judicial Magistrate Shibu Daniel. The CBI has not been able to find Jesna, who went missing six years ago. It is not known whether Jesna has died or not.

The conversion centres of various religious sects such as Satyasarani in Malappuram, Ponnani and Arya Samaj in Kozhikode were investigated. Statements of many converts were taken. Neither religious nor terrorist groups are behind the disappearances. Jesna was not found to have committed suicide or been murdered. To confirm this, a comparative study was conducted with the dead bodies but to no avail. Probes were carried out at several suicide points. Searches were done in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Mumbai. The Lower Periyar Dam area was also searched.

Jasna's father, James, and a friend, who had been on the phone more than once, were subjected to brain electrical oscillation signature profiling (BEOS) tests, which revealed that they were not involved in the disappearance.

Jesna called only a handful of friends on the phone. When the COVID portal was checked, it became clear that Jesna had not taken the vaccine. Jesna left home at 10.30 am on March 22, 2018. She left her phone at home and told the neighbour woman that she was going to her aunt's house. Sijo, the auto driver, had given a statement that he took Jesna in an autorickshaw from near the house to Mukkoottuthara.

Lapse in police investigation

A proper investigation was not done at the initial stage. Interpol has issued a yellow notice for the search. The CBI report also states that they are ready for re-investigation if they get information about Jesna from abroad. Investigation officer SP KG Simon's revelation that there are many things that cannot be revealed in Jesna's disappearance is baseless.

Jesna's father can file a stay petition against the CBI report to end the investigation. The court sent a notice seeking the father's explanation on the report. He is asked to appear in court on January 19.
