KOCHI: The CBI has submitted the preliminary chargesheet in the death of JS Siddharth, a student of the Pookode Veterinary University in Wayanad. The chargesheet has been submitted in the Ernakulam CJM court. The CBI quickly filed the chargesheet to prevent the accused from getting bail. Siddharth died on February 18 after being subjected to weeks of ragging, mob trials and brutal beatings.
The CBI began investigating the case on April 6. The investigation team is led by SP M Sundarvel. The CBI took over the case as per the demand of Siddharth's family.
Meanwhile, the Kerala High Court on Thursday observed that the death of Siddharth is a serious incident. The High Court stated that the student had to face an inhuman attack in front of fellow students and action should be taken against the officers who did not stop the attack. Justice Siyad Rahman mentioned this in the order upholding the Governor's action of suspending Veterinary University Vice Chancellor Dr MR Saseendran following the death of Siddharth. The court also clarified that the Governor, who is the Chancellor, has the authority to take action against the VC.
