NEW DELHI: Priya Varghese said her appointment as assistant professor in Kannur University is on merit and should not cancel it. Priya demanded this in the affidavit filed in the Supreme Court. She said that her appointment in the university is based on qualification and merit. Priya in the affidavit stated that the selection committee's decision cannot be cancelled citing violation of UGC rules.

The affidavit filed in the Supreme Court by the state government and Kannur University mentioned that Priya's appointment was as per the rules. C K Sasi, standing consul for the government said deputation is common and teachers will not be willing to become program coordinators if deputation is considered less qualified.

Priya Varghese submitted the affidavit while the Supreme Court is hearing the petitions against the high court judgments upholding the appointment of Priya Varghese today. A bench of Justices J K Maheshwari and Sudhanshu Dhulia is considering the pleas. UGC and Joseph Skaria approached the Supreme Court against the high court verdict.
