PARIS: President Emmanuel Macron appointed 34-year-old Gabriel Attal as the new Prime Minister of France. Attal was the education minister of the nation when Macron appointed him as the PM. Experts say that this move will not make much difference in the European elections in June.
However, this is part of Macron's move beyond last year's unpopular pension and immigration reforms and improve his centrist party's chances in the June EU ballot. Attal's work as a government spokesperson during the Covid era was impressive. Macron's party is currently lagging far behind in opinion polls.
Gabriel Attal is the youngest Prime Minister in the history of France. He had openly said that he is gay. MP Patrick Wignall says Gabriel Attal is reminiscent of what Macron was like in 2017.
Wignall also shared the hope that Attal would be able to create a movement among the youth, similar to Macron. It is also estimated that the alliance of the Macron-Attal duo will give a new impetus to the party and the government.
