THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Finance Department has changed the procedures for providing emergency treatment assistance in the Medisep scheme of government employees.

Medisep card holders can seek treatment from non-empanelled hospitals for car accident injuries, heart attacks and strokes. The hospital bill along with the Medisep card number should be forwarded to the Oriental insurance company to get a refund.

According to the new order, if the treatment is done in a non-empanelled hospital for a car accident, stroke or heart attack, an email should be sent to the Oriental Insurance Company along with the Medisep number, disease and reasons. The insurance company will inform if the person is eligible for reimbursement and will give the exact amount he/she will get as refund. The application for a refund shall be submitted only after receiving a response from the insurance company.

The amount paid as medical assistance is more than the Medisep premium. Considering this situation, running Medisep is a gruelling task that yields no profit for Oriental Insurance Company. Many claims for treatment in non-empanelled hospitals are pending with the insurance company. The change was made after considering all this queries.
