CHENNAI: Congress MP Karthi Chidambaram responds to the 'Annapurani' film controversy involving Nayanthara. In a social media post, he states Rama consumed meat with a caption 'To all those getting agitated by dietary choices.' Karthi supports his claim with Ramayana passages.
Nayanthara played Annapurani Rangarajan, a temple priest's daughter, in the film produced by Zee Studios, Nad Studios and Trident Arts. The movie directed by Nilesh Krishna faced backlash for a scene suggesting Lord Rama was a carnivore. Allegations of promoting love jihad arose leading to the film's removal from Netflix post Hindutva group protests.
Former Shiv Sena leader Ramesh Solanki filed a complaint claiming religious sentiments were hurt. Zee Studio apologized confirming the removal of controversial scenes. 'Annapurani' hit theaters on December 1 and streamed on Netflix on December 29.
