Capital embraces electric bus, plans purchase of 20 more; Mayor rejects Minister's stand

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mayor Arya Rajendran has ruled out Minister KB Ganesh Kumar's statement that the govt. will not buy electric buses anymore. Mayor pointed out that electric buses have been successful and the people of the capital have accepted them with open arms. The mayor explained in a Facebook post that the process of buying 20 new buses and 2 electric double-decker buses has been completed. The mayor stated that the leftist policy is to make the city carbon neutral and the municipal council will go ahead with the plan to implement it.

As part of the Carbon Neutral City policy, the Municipal Corporation is currently implementing various measures to control the impact of global warming and climate change. Carbon neutral policy is being implemented in areas including solar projects, plastic waste treatment and transport. As part of this, the Municipal Corporation has purchased 60 electric buses for service in the city as part of the first phase. This service, which has been accepted with open arms by the people, is continuing successfully. As the second phase, 20 electric buses and 2 electric double-decker buses have been completed and inaugurated as part of the tourism sector of the city.

Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation and World Resource Institute India (WRII) Mumbai decided to implement the net zero carbon and resilient building project in the city limits by involving various stakeholders. Various sectors like buildings, transport, industry, energy, agriculture and forestry that affect global warming. Yes. Among these, the studies say that green house gas (40%) is emitted the most in the building construction sector. Therefore, the net zero carbon and resilient building - City Action Plan is aimed at reducing the green house gas emissions in the building construction sector. Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation is the first local government body in the state to implement the project.

It is the policy of the Left Democratic Front to make the capital city a carbon neutral city. The municipal governing body will proceed with the necessary discussions, decisions and plans to implement it. Together, we can move forward to succeed in our plans to make our city carbon neutral.
