Tragic accident claims life of 9-year-old schoolboy in Kollam

KOLLAM: A schoolboy died tragically on Thursday after a bus ran over him in a freak accident in Kollam.

Deepu's son D. Vishwajit (9) of ‘Ashoka Bhavan’ at Thekkevila, fell off from a three-wheeled scooter and went under a private bus while going to school with his parents. He was a student of Thangasserry Deva Mata Convent School. The accident happened near Polayathodu junction around 9:25 am on Thursday.

The scooter was trying to overtake the bus but had to suddenly put the brakes on after another vehicle came from the opposite direction. In the sudden reaction, the vehicle lost balance and, Viswajith fell off the scooter and got in between the bus. The back wheel of the bus ran over the child's body. Locals rushed all three to the district hospital but Vishwajit died.
