CHENNAI: In a shocking incident, a journalist was hacked in Tamil Nadu's Tirupur. The attacked Nesa Prabhu, Tirupur reporter of 'News 7' channel, had recently reported on irregularities in a government-owned liquor store. It is assumed the animosity behind this triggered the attack.

Hours before the attack, Nesa Prabhu had sought the help of the police and informed that six people have been following him for the past few days and their footage is on the CCTV camera. But the police only said they will look into the matter.

Even before he was attacked yesterday, Nesa Prabhu had called the police and sought help. After the attack, he was admitted to a hospital in Coimbatore with injuries including in his right leg.

The police registered a case and started investigation. Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami criticized the police not helping the mediaperson despite a phone call hours before the attack.
