NEW DELHI: Former India coach Anil Kumble came down heavily on Shubman Gill, who continues to be in bad form in the Test format. Kumble openly stated that Gill is getting the consideration that Cheteshwar Pujara, who played 100 Tests, did not have in the team. Gill has not scored a single half-century in his last 11 Test innings. After scoring 128 against Australia in Ahmedabad in March last year, Gill's highest Test score is 36. Gill's scores were 23 and 0 against England in Hyderabad.
Pujara last played for India in the World Test Championship final against Australia in June last year. After that, Gill has been batting at one down position for India. After being dropped from the Indian team, Pujara has been in good form. He scored a double century (243*) in the Ranji match earlier this month. Yet, he was not considered in the squad for the series against England.
