Names of MT and Mammootty were recommended for Padma Awards; only one considered from 19

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reports said the Center considered only one out of the 19 names recommended by the state government for this year's Padma awards. Among the 19 names nominated by Kerala, only Chitran Namboothiripad was considered for the Padma Shri award. He was considered from the field of literature and education.
Kerala recommended the name of M T Vasudevan Nair for Padma Vibhushan. Actor Mammootty's name was recommended for Padma Bhushan. Director Shaji N Karun, sportsperson P R Sreejesh and Major Archbishop Cardinal Mar Baselios Clemmes Catholica Bava were also suggested. However, none of these names were considered by the Centre.

I M Vijayan, Manuel Federick and Ranjith Maheshwari were proposed for Padma Shri from the field of sports and C Radhakrishnan, T Padmanabhan, M K Sanu and Benjamin from the field of literature. These names were also not considered by the Centre. From the field of social services Fr Davies Chirammel and C Narendran (posthumously) K Jayakumar from the civil service, Dr Poovathinkal, Soorya Krishnamurthy and Sadanam Krishnankutty Nair from arts were suggested.
