Vijay floats political party 'Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam', eyes 2026 Assembly polls; to launch app for enrolling one crore party members

CHENNAI: As expected, Thalapathy Vijay announced floating a political party 'Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam' (TVK). Vijay is the president of the party. After acting in the films he has agreed to shoot, he will enter full-time politics.

TVK will enter the fray for the Assembly polls in 2026.

The party will not support any other parties in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. After the parliamentary elections, the flag, symbol and action plan of the party will be presented.

After 'Vijay Makkal Iyakam' General Secretary Bussy Anand reached the Election Commission office in Delhi on Friday and completed the registration process, Vijay announced the name and policy of the party through a press release. Following this, the actor's fans started celebrating in the streets and distributed sweets.

Vijay made it clear that his party will completely eradicate the prevailing situation of caste, religion and corruption.

A mobile app of the party will be released soon, through which one can become a party member. The first target is to get one crore people as members. A conference will be held in April.

Vijay criticized the state and central governments. "You are all aware of the current political climate. These are obstacles to our unity and progress -- administrative malpractices and corrupt politics on the one hand and a divisive political culture that aims at dividing the people on the lines of caste and religion on the other hand,” Vijay said.

Vijay took the final decision to announce the political party at a meeting of the chief office bearers of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam held at his house on January 26. Later, a 200-member General Council meeting was also held. A meeting is being held today to decide future matters.

'Naa Readya Varavaa'

The song 'Naa Ready...' from the movie Leo was the announcement of his political entry. The song was released on June 22, Vijay's birthday. It was big news that Vijay personally honoured the winners of the Tamil Nadu board exams in Chennai before his birthday.

1. Advantage

After Jayalalitha's death, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) became weak.

The party can take advantage of the anti-incumbency sentiment against DMK

BJP is trying to show progress, but it won't be having a major influence

2. Adversity

It was MGR who came from cinema and achieved great success in politics. No one else has received so much acceptance

Vijayakanth's party, which saw initial success, later collapsed

Even Kamal Haasan could not win the election.
