THRISSUR: In a bid to create an official state song, preparations began almost six years ago in Kerala. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan initiated the idea during the second anniversary of his government in July 2018. A committee, led by Vaisakhan at the time was appointed to oversee the process.
Despite a change in leadership, with Sachidanandan as president and C.P. Abubakar as secretary, the initiative persisted. However, a recent revelation by President Satchidanandan disclosed that the committee did not accept the lyrics submitted by Sreekumaran Thambi.
The criteria for the Kerala song include reflecting the nature, identity, and values of the state, a three-minute duration, universal appeal and musicality. Submissions were invited until October 15, with the directive to send them to the academy address or email.
