Low-pressure area poses threat; Kerala to receive widespread rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in coming days

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that rain will intensify in the state in the coming days. A low-pressure area is located from north Kerala coast to south Gujarat coast. As a result of this, Kerala is likely to receive widespread rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in the coming days, IMD said.

IMD also warned that the state is likely to receive widespread rain accompanied by thunder and lightning on July 24 (today), 27, 29 and 31. It warned that winds with a maximum speed of 50 km per hour are likely to prevail over the state on July 25 and 26.

Isolated places in Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts are likely to receive moderate rain and gusty winds of up to 50 kmph in the next three hours. Meanwhile, isolated places in other districts are likely to receive moderate or light rain and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph in the next three hours. Fisherfolks in northern Kerala - Lakshadweep - Karnataka coasts have been advised not to venture into the sea. A yellow alert has been announced in Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod districts today.
