Student SFI worker molested and extorted; DYFI leader arrested

KOLLAM: DYFI leader has been arrested in a case where a college student, who is an SFI worker, was molested with a promise of marriage and extorted Rs 9 lakh. Vishakh, a native of Kallada Koyikkal Bhagam in Sasthamcotta West and DYFI unit secretary, was arrested. The arrest was made under the Scheduled Castes Prevention of Harassment Act.

In October 2022, the two met and became close during an event of SFI. Visakh had promised the girl that he would marry her. Later, the girl transferred 9 lakh rupees several times through the Google Pay account of her mother, who is a school teacher, for various purposes. Vishak's RE Bullet's instalments were closed by the girl. The girl's necklace was bought for pawning and he cheated the girl by making her pay the instalments for the necklace as well. The girl testified that she handed over three lakh rupees directly. Sasthamcotta police has a case of assault against Visakh. The girl filed a complaint with the police on Saturday when Visakh became close to another girl.

The police registered a case under the charges of molestation, scheduled caste harassment and fraud. Another similar case against Visakha was compromised.
