PATHANAMTHITTA: After a thief allegedly looted a temple in Elanthoor and vandalised the idol installed there, there was an outcry against him from the devotees during evidence collection. The incident took place at Bhagavathikkunnu Temple in Elanthoor. Suresh, a native of Perunad, who is part of a robbery group, is accused of committing the crime. The gang had vandalized the hundis (collection boxes) and vandalised the idols. Two more accused are to be nabbed in connection with the crime.

Suresh, who said he was having chest pain, was brought for evidence collection after taking an ECG. A large crowd was there to see the thief. The group that looted the money from the collection boxes had thrown away the idols of the sub-deities, which angered the devotees. After reaching the scene, the police took the thief to the scene with great care. The thief described the robbery to the police.

Lalitha Nair, a devotee who saw the thieves directly and identified them, made her protest known. "Don't spare him", Lalitha lashed out at the thief. She added that she is angry because of the vandalisation of the idol. Although the loss is small, the temple will have to pay huge money for 'cleansing' and other rituals.
